Day for Life – Sunday 20th June
There will be a retiring collection at both Masses. Bishop Patrick writes:
In 2020 we were unable to hold the annual ‘Day for Life’ collection because of the pandemic, and so the funds are very much depleted. This fund is used to support ‘Pro-Life’ organisations who raise awareness and who engage in parliamentary work and pastoral outreach. The Nottingham Pro-life group have benefited from a grant to support their work. But, in addition, we are also now faced, as you know, with the very real threat of the legalisation of ‘assisted suicide’ in our country. There is already a Private Members Bill in the House of Lords. Financial resources will be needed to resist this.
As previously announced, Fr Alex will be retiring and his last day as our Parish Priest will be on Sunday 20th June 2021.
On that day between 4pm and 6pm we will be serving tea, cakes, and sandwiches in the church hall, complying with the relevant covid-19 restrictions and parishioners are invited to attend.
Rev. Deacon Martyn
The Word and the Common Good: You are invited to join Catholics from around the Diocese of Nottingham for an interactive online course over six Monday evenings in June and July. As life starts afresh after lockdown, it’s a rare opportunity to sow seeds of the Gospel.
- Discover how Scripture and Catholic Social Teaching can help us seize this moment and build a society that reflects God’s Kingdom
- Build bridges following a year of social distancing and foster a new ‘culture of encounter’
- Form new friendships, renew old ones, and help to build our parish communities for mission.
The sessions begin on Monday 7 June at 7.00 p.m. for six weeks – come to as many as you are available for.
Right to Life UK – Prayer for This Sunday
“We pray for all unborn children diagnosed with disabilities; we pray for protection for them and their mothers from the pressures of society to have an abortion, and that they would instead experience overwhelming support from all who surround them. Lord hear us”.
Almighty and eternal God, our refuge in every danger, to whom we turn in our distress; in faith we pray look with compassion on the afflicted, grant eternal rest to the dead, comfort to mourners, healing to the sick, peace to the dying, strength to healthcare workers, inspiration to our scientists, wisdom to our leaders and the courage to reach out to all in love, so that together we may give glory to your holy name. Amen.
